Q & A with Camp Champs Makayla and Hayden

10 Sept 2023

The countdown is on - 7 sleeps to go until Kingston camps begin! We had a chat with Camp Champs Makayla and Hayden with the aim of giving newcomers a true insight into KBA camps.

Makayla and Hayden attended KBA's 2023 winter camps and received their titles in recognition of the effort they put in at the camps.

MAKAYLA

Q. Favourite part of camp and why?

A. My favourite part of camp was when we did games in our drills or the 1v1s.

Q. Favourite coach and why?

A. All the coaches were amazing. I don't have a favourite, but Ray was always really encouraging, pushing us to do better in every drill.

Q. What would you tell other kids about our camps?

A. I would tell other kids that the camps are so fun. All the coaches are nice and encouraging and the other kids at the camp are competitive when it comes to the 1v1s and 1v2s.

Q. Will you be back for our September camps and why?

A. I would love to go to the September camps because it helps me get better at basketball. All the drills helped with my handles and finishes.

Q. How did you feel about winning our prize and being named our camp champ?

A. I felt surprised when I found out that I had won the prize. I wasn't really expecting it.

HAYDEN

Q. Favourite coach and why?

A. My favourite coach is Ray. Ray always challenges me and makes me do harder things than I’m supposed to be doing, but I enjoy being pushed to up my game.

Q. Did you learn a new skill or something about yourself?

A. I became more confident with my shooting, especially using different moves into step backs.

Q. What was your key takeaway from the camp?

A. Put in the effort and see the results.

Q. Any tips to share with kids planning on attending our September camps?

A. Have fun and don’t stop trying, even if you’re missing your shots.

Q. How did you feel about winning our prize and being named our Camp Champ?

A. I was surprised to win the prize and be named Camp Champ. It was nice for the coaches to see the effort that I put in at the camp.

We can't wait to see you all and find out who will be the next Camp Champs. Merch prizes up for grabs!
